AITIMA is a non-profit organization offering free expert assistance to refugees and vulnerable migrants.
Fortunately a big part of the refugees and vulnerable migrants who are in Greece have met their basic subsistence needs (through accommodation in apartments and cash-assistance).
What is more urgent for them is to get free expert legal support, so that refugees and vulnerable migrants can:
· Be released from detention
· Get certification for their vulnerability
· Get access to asylum
· Reunite with family in other European countries
· Regularize their stay through refugee status or subsidiary protection
Since it was founded in 2008 AITIMA has supported about 8.000 refugees and migrants.

By taking advantage of our cases we also monitor the human rights situation and advocate for vulnerable
people in Greece.
In October 2016 we produced one report about detention: FORGOTTEN Report
In April 2017 one report about asylum procedures: ON HOLD Report
We struggle to deliver all this work despite the fact that we have to rely on very limited resources.
OUR WORK FOR THE VULNERABLE ASYLUM SEEKERS
AITIMA supports over 100 asylum seekers every month and always prioritizes the most vulnerable. Unfortunately this is not always the case when vulnerable people visit the competent authorities. Recently while working on the cases of some particularly vulnerable beneficiaries of ours , we found that they were not prioritized and in some cases they were submitted to undue trouble. For this reason we wrote to the Asylum Service and we pointed out these cases at the same time asking that the Service will take all the necessary steps to ensure that all vulnerable asylum seekers will be treated adequately.
